List of Uniform Acts (United States)

From LawGuru Wiki

In the United States, a Uniform Act is an act proposed by the Uniform Law Commissioners, more formally known as the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL), a body of lawyers and other professionals who work for the standardisation of U.S. state laws. The NCCUSL does not have any legislative power and to give legal effect to any uniform act requires the approval of state legislatures. In some cases, such as the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act, this has proven difficult to obtain.

The existence of uniform acts results in large part from the nature of the American federal system. The United States Congress does not have authority under the Constitution to legislate many issues leaving many powers to state governments. At the same time, there is a desire to have consistent laws across the states.

Some legal scholars have argued that the existence and codification of Uniform acts, most notably the Uniform Commercial Code has given American law less of a common law flavor and made it more similar to a civil law system.

This is a list of all the Uniform Acts or proposed Uniform Acts.
